Dave Murray, a longtime resident of Greencastle, is a current member of the Greencastle City Council, holding the at-large position. His dedication to the Greencastle community and his commitment to public service have made him an effective advocate and leader for the residents of the city.
Dave's civic engagement began with the United Way, where he once served as the chairman of the Admissions and Allocations Committee, a role that allowed him to guide public donations to their most impactful uses. He then co-chaired the Business Development Committee under the strategic planning board, Greencastle 2001, and was the first president of the board of the Greencastle/Putnam Development Center. During this period, despite the major setback of IBM's departure, Dave helped bring a new business to Greencastle within just 72 days.
He also served on Greencastle's Citizens Advisory Commission for Industrial Development (CACFID), one of only two such commissions in the state, further exemplifying his dedication to the economic growth and prosperity of the community.
Dave's commitment to public service and local progress continued with his tenure on the City Council. His strategic leadership and wealth of experience have allowed him to make significant contributions towards maintaining Greencastle's momentum and driving forward its growth and development.
As the president of his family's business, the National Center for College Costs. He was instrumental in building one of the country's most comprehensive college selection, admission, and financial aid websites, responding to a request from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
Although Dave is not seeking re-election, his impact on the Greencastle community is long-lasting. His vision of a prosperous and sustainable future for Greencastle is likely to guide the city's strategic decisions for years to come.
Bill and his family have lived in Greencastle since 1983, although his wife Kathryn’s family, has lived in the area since the 1800s. Bill served as the original executive director of Main Street Greencastle, Inc., later as the Statewide Coordinator of the Indiana Main Street Program, and prior to election, over 20 years as the executive director of the Greencastle/Putnam County Indiana Development Center. Kathryn teaches band and choir at Greencastle Middle School. Their two children are both graduates of Greencastle High School and have embarked on their own careers.
Bill was elected in November of 2015. He brings a strong background of community service, community development, and economic development to the office as well as experience working with various city and county elected officials, boards, and commissions to grow the community.
After receiving his Bachelor of Environmental Design from Miami University, he continued his studies at the University of Illinois where he received a Master of Urban and Regional Planning.
Russell Harvey is a dedicated community advocate and currently serving the First Ward on Greencastle City Council. He is a husband and father with a deep understanding of local issues and a strong commitment to public service. Russell is determined to make a positive impact on his community. He has spent nearly 20 years in purchasing and planning at local manufacturers and has a strong background in Sales. Russell recently served on the Greencastle School Board and has been a part of positive changes within the corporation.
As a Navy Veteran, Russell displays his commitment to community by serving on various boards, volunteering and serving as a mission and service coordinator at his local church. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated effective leadership and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Russell's vision for Greencastle includes promoting sustainable development, improving public infrastructure, supporting law enforcement and emergency services and ensuring transparency in local government. With his integrity, experience, and innovative ideas, Russell Harvey is ready to serve the residents of Greencastle and create a brighter future for all.
Veronica Pejril declared her candidacy for reelection to Greencastle’s Ward 3 Council seat on January 4, running on the Democratic ticket.
Pejril was first elected to the Greencastle City Council in 2019. During her first term, she championed increased investments in city infrastructure, doubling Greencastle’s 2023 street repair budget. Councilor Pejril also supported pay-raises for police officers, fire fighters, and other municipal employees to promote morale and retention.
“Working together, we’ve accomplished so much, all while navigating an historic pandemic,” Pejril said, “but there is still much to do. We must do more to support quality of life, especially for our underserved residents.” She cites improving the housing inventory, investing wisely in impactful infrastructure, and community safety as important challenges to address.
Pejril’s vision is to “inspire everyone in our community to come together around our common values to make Greencastle a more vibrant, more welcoming place for everyone.”
Councilor Pejril’s work includes service on the city’s Budget Committee, Human Relations Committee, and Sustainability Commission.
Pejril is active with 100 Women Who Care of Putnam County Indiana, the county Housing Stability Committee, Greencastle NAACP Unit 3051, and she serves on the Board of Directors for Main Street Greencastle. She plays jazz/blues piano with her church community and in Putnam County Indiana’s music scene; she regularly seizes opportunities to donate her talents to benefit local and regional organizations.
An outspoken champion for marginalized young people, Pejril’s community advocacy has been featured in regional press and television media. She serves as Treasurer on the Executive Board of Indiana Youth Group, and as Vice President on the Board of Trustees of Princeton University’s LGBTQ+ Alumni Association, BTGALA.
While a student, Pejril founded a small business, Black Squirrel Software, to market computer-music tools she developed, and she wrote a children’s book on accepting differences. In 2017, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin commissioned her as a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the state.
A former K-8 music teacher, Pejril now leads DePauw University’s instructional technology team and is a part-time Assistant Professor of Music. The daughter of a municipal water-treatment engineer and a public school math teacher, Councilor Pejril is a 17-year resident of Greencastle and a proud parent of two Purdue graduates.
